Mental Health Advocate for Haitians (MHAH) provides awareness in the Haitian American Community by advocating for them and their mental health needs. We believe that behavioral and mental health stigma exist as a barrier to access help within the black community. MHAH is building our community by providing resources to mental illnesses such as anxiety and bipolar disorders as well as the developmental disorders which includes autism. Misdiagnosis in autism is often the result of being diagnosed with both autism and a mental illness. This often creates a roadblock to get the right help. Through education and empowering, our community will prevail to a better and healthier community.
Modenie Ferdinand is the founder and President of Mental Health Advocate for Haitians (MHAH) previously known as the Haitian Applied Behavior Analysts (HABA). The change was made to reach more Haitians in the mental and behavioral health field. Modenie is a Mental Health Practitioner, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master of Science in Psychology, and a Post-graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and currently pursuing her PhD in Psychology. Her combined experiences in both Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and in the mental health as a Registered Behavior Technician and Mental Health Counselor contributed to her passion to advocate and help others especially her own community.
